Featured Projects - 2011 Semester 2
PERSISTENT ONLINE GAME
This semester our primary project was to build a persistent online game that explored social interactions.
In our game, named Sticky Voxels, players can collaborate to build creative monuments out of blocks, or destroy the creations of other players.
My role for the game is as Lead Network Programmer, which is a new and fascinating area of research for me.
EVIL APE ALARM CLOCK
The Evil Ape alarm clock is an attempt to make alarm clocks more interactive by implementing game mechanics.
Upon detecting sunlight, the Evil Ape will start yelling at you and an LED health bar will appear above his head. To shut off the alarm, you must punch the Evil Ape repeatedly until he runs out of health.
The Evil Ape alarm was developed as part of a Smart Systems project using Arduino.
IPHONE APP - ZOMBIE TRON
Zombie Tron is a new approach to Tron style computer games where players play as zombies and compete to infect the most humans.
Zombie Tron was developed as part of a Simulated & Immersive Environments project, and is in the process of being improved graphically before it gets submitted to the Apple App Store.
2011 Semester 1 Projects
PROJECT UNITY
Project Unity is the result of a research-driven project about the role of Realism in games.
In the Project Unity game you are allowed to do only three things - eat, sleep, and crap. Our challenge was to allow the player to do only these three things, yet still make the game enjoyable to play.
My role for the game is as Lead Programmer, and therefore I am constantly in the position of learning new things.
IPHONE APP - MINECRAFT TRIVIA
Earlier this year I learnt how to develop iPhone games with Unity, and to supplement this knowledge I've been learning how to use xCode to give myself ultimate control over iPhone development.
xCode is a very different development environment from any other software/programming language that I've used before, which makes it very challenging but rewarding.
To date, my Minecraft Trivia iPhone app has been downloaded over 60,000 times in the Apple App Store.
2010 Projects
HOME
HOME is a 2D MMO Game that we have been lucky enough to get the opportunity to create as a BCT Studio Project!
HOME gives players the tools to create their own virtual worlds which others discover using avatars. Gameplay is similar to Little Big Planet in gameplay, but with many twists that will make the game even more fun to play!
My role for the game is as Lead Programmer, and therefore I am constantly in the position of learning new things.
We hope to have HOME completed by early December, and will release it to the world mid-January. Stay tuned :-)
ANIMATION
Another interest of mine being studied through BCT is 3D Modeling & Animation.
Challenging yourself to create and model new worlds is an incredible feeling. Click the image above to view it full size (1920x1080)!
